The Benefit of Social Media

Social Media has taken over our lives, everything is happening online. Some job interviews are web based instead of face to face office setting. All though many have benefited I think it is still little too much considering our society has lost the socializing part but for our busy lives social media has saved us and helped us accomplished much more. Twitter is a huge part of social media and I think it is really interesting to see what companies and people are using it for, such as promotions, customer service support and more. More and more companies are starting to realize the value of social media and are quickly adapting this new form of communication.

Best Buy uses Twitter @BestBuy to put product releases, new promotions and offer customer service. Best Buy’s has hundreds of employees who provide customer support on Twitter. http://www.stayonsearch.com/best-buy-using-social-media-to-connect-with-customers.
Their employees are managed through custom built system that keeps track of who participates. Twitter is free and more companies have been discovering cost savings and how it helps serve customers more effectively through social technology.  There are many blogs that talk about twitter help and other social media benefits that companies use such as http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2009/11/six_social_media_trends.html

  1. I agree, social media is a good thing, but it is getting to be a little too much. There are still some things that should be face to face rather than over the internet. Companies using Twitter is a great idea though, it is just helpful for employees and customers to find out more about the company.

  2. That is pretty incredible. I had not idea Best Buy has a Twitter account or that they have customer support via Twitter. Social media definitely has a lot of positives.

  3. I like the angle that you took on this blog. Showing that Best Buy has a Twitter is not information that most people know. I think that using Twitter to release to promotions via Best Buy is an effective marketing tactic.

  4. I never would have known that! I think that is definitely helpful to people who may not be able to connect to them otherwise.

  5. Agreed everyone relies on social media, its good but people seem to be communicating more through that than in person. More companies keep joining the social networks which is helpful!
